Public Transit (TTC)

When taking public transit, get off at St. Andrew Station. This subway is accessible. This is the closest station to our address. Exit the station at the King St. East exit. You should arrive above ground at King St. and University on the east side of the street. Walk south for less than a block and 55 University Avenue will be on your left (east side).

There are currently 34 subway stations where elevators provide access to train platforms and transfers to and from Wheel-Trans and/or TTC accessible buses. These stations typically have accessible fare gates, sliding automatic doors and improved signage. Visit Elevators and Escalators, Subway or Maps to find out which subway stations are accessible with elevators; just look for the International Symbol of Access.

Elevator/Escalator Status: before you begin your subway trip call the TTC 24-hour Information Line at 416 393-4636 (INFO) and press 5 to confirm whether or not the elevators or escalators you plan to use on your trip are operating or scheduled for maintenance. Elevator information is also available at 416 539-5438 (LIFT) or on our Elevators and Escalators page. Trip planning: for 24-hour TTC routes and schedules, or for general travel and trip planning information, please call 416-393-4636 (INFO). Internet Trip Planner: it provides TTC users a self-serve means of planning their transit trips using route information, timing points and travelling distances. A mobile trip planner can be accessed from m.ttc.ca.

Wheeltrans - Wheel-Trans is the TTC’s door-to door service for people with physical mobility challenges who have the most difficulty using conventional transit services. Rides can be booked to and from accessible subway stations on Wheel-Trans buses, and contracted accessible taxis, both of which have access to TTC paid areas.

Wheel-Trans customers can now book a ride to and from the closest accessible subway station on the “day of service”.  Here is how the Same Day Link Service works: If you are interested, call the new Service Integration Line at 416-397-5855 or email WheelTrans2Subway@ttc.ca to indicate that you want to book a ride to the closest accessible subway station, or to book a trip to pick you up from the closest accessible subway station to and from your destination. The service is available weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a minimum of four hours notice. Wheel-Trans will make every effort to book you a pick-up to the closest accessible subway station and a return-ride back from that same station. Currently, Wheel-Trans zone and express services, as well as the Community Bus service, link with accessible subway stations and bus routes.

For more WheelTrans information, go to https://www.ttc.ca/WheelTrans/index.jsp.

Parking

55 University has an underground parking garage with a maximum capacity of 130 spaces.  Access to this parking garage is off of Wellington Street West. The doors for the parking garage are open from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm Monday to Friday (The gates are just beyond the main garage door).  There is accessible parking available under the building.

This parking garage also has elevator access to the main lobby of 55 University from P1- P3. Access to the lobby is through the parking garage elevator only (this is a separate elevator from the one that goes up to the 14th and 15th floor). Once you reach the lobby you will need to transfer to another elevator to continue up the 14th / 15th floor.

Because parking is limited, those who arrive after 9 am are often asked to double park and leave their keys with the attendant. The parking daily rate is $4/half hour to a daily max of $20 up until 6pm.  The evening rate is an additional $5 flat rate.

If you prefer to park elsewhere you have the following options:

  1. Green P at 40 York Street. This underground parking lot is accessible as you head south on University just before Front (there is a ramp to enter). Parking at this site is $3.50 / half hour to a daily max of $25.

  2. Roy Thompson Hall underground parking garage at Wellington and Simcoe. The daily rate at this garage is $17.00 Monday – Friday from 9 am – 7pm. There is an early bird special of $16.00 if you arrive before 9 am. Hourly rate is $8.00.

  3. 145 Wellington ground level outdoor parking. The hourly rate is $8, and the daily rate is $18.00 until 5pm.
